Cross-linked povidone, a pharmaceutical excipient, is a water-insoluble synthetic crosslinked N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone homopolymer. This product is white or off-white powder; almost odorless; hygroscopic. This product is insoluble in water, ethanol, chloroform or ether. This product has a high capillary/water capacity, large specific surface area, strong hydration ability (HK: 5.6), high water absorption and rapid (58.5%), strong water swelling capacity, swelling coefficient of 2.25-2.30, with polyethylene Pyrrolidone has the same complexing ability and can complex a variety of substances, such as phenols, iodine and the like.

Application


Crospovidone is a water-insoluble tablet disintegrator with a concentration of 2-5% used in direct tablet pressing and dry or wet pelletizing processes. Crosslinked povidone can quickly show high capillary activity and excellent hydration ability, almost no tendency to gel. Studies have shown that the size of Crospovidone particles strongly influences the disintegration of antipyretic analgesia tablets, and Crospovidone with large particles plays a faster disintegration role than that with small particles. Crosslinked povidone is an excellent disintegrating agent. If 1-2% is used in tablets, the disintegrating effect of other common disintegrating agents can be achieved. Moreover, it has good reprocessability. 

Crospovidone is pressed into tablets as disintegrating agent, with high hardness, short disintegration time and high dissolution rate. It is stable and does not change from time to time. 

 Crospovidone can also be used as a dry binder, filler and excipient for tablets, capsules and granules. The smaller particle size can reduce one-sided markings in pressed tablets and improve the uniformity of tablets. The dosage is usually 20-80mg/ tablet. 

Crospovidone can also be used as a dissolution promoter, using a co-evaporation technique that increases the solubility of insoluble drugs: first, the appropriate solvent is adsorped to the cross-linked povidone, and then the solvent is evaporated, resulting in a faster dissolution rate.

This product is also widely used in food industry as filter aid for wine making and vinegar production, used to remove enzymes and proteins. 

 Crospovidone and polyphenols form stable complexes and can be used to refine water-soluble or alcoholic herbal extracts and tinctures, improving the stability of plant medicines.
